3 Signs You Need a Transmission Service at Your Mazda Dealership

Transmission Fluid Leak

A leak is an obvious sign that something is wrong. Fortunately, transmission fluid is easy to identify as it is bright or dark red, depending on its age. The transmission is sealed, but age or damage can weaken a seal or gasket, and the fluid will escape. The most common leak source is a worn gasket in the transmission pan, the area where the fluid is stored.

As the transmission loses fluid, gear shifting will become difficult, and wear and tear on transmission components will increase, causing noises as the gears shift. If the leak isn’t repaired, the transmission will overheat and seize, resulting in major damage. We’ll examine your transmission, find the leak, and fix it. Once the transmission is correctly sealed, we’ll refill the fluid.

Dragging Clutch

This problem can happen in a manual transmission if it’s not regularly serviced. When you push on the clutch pedal, the clutch disc presses against the flywheel, which connects to the crankshaft. This causes the transmission to disengage from the engine so you can use the gear stick to shift gears. Once you remove your foot, the transmission reengages with the engine.

Clutch dragging happens when the clutch disc doesn’t disengage from the flywheel when you push in the clutch. Energy continues to flow from the engine to the wheels, and you’ll hear loud grinding noises. Your Mazda may also stall, which can be very dangerous depending on where you’re driving. This issue can be caused by a loose clutch cable or worn clutch plates. We’ll find and repair the cause of the trouble.

Gear Slipping

The engine produces uncontrolled energy, and the transmission controls this energy using the gears, then directs it to your wheels so they can move at the required speed. Gear slipping happens when something goes wrong with this process, and energy isn’t transferred to the wheels correctly. If this happens, you’ll hear loud revving sounds from the engine, gear shifting will be difficult, and engine power will drop.

This issue can be caused by worn gear teeth, damaged transmission bands, or damaged shifting solenoids. It can also happen if your transmission fluid is low, as a lack of fluid prevents the gears from moving correctly. Our technicians will investigate and fix the problem.
